Want to play through your favorite NES titles again? Nintendo might have something even better.
Nintendo President Satoru Iwata announced in this morning’s Nintendo Direct a new compilation of mini games called “NES Remix,” which features revamped versions of Nintendo’s 8-bit gems.
NES Remix allows players to blast through levels from 16 altered Nintendo classics such as Super Mario Bros, The Legend of Zelda and Donkey Kong, unlocking new levels along the way.
The trailer shows unique challenges such as playing Excite Bike levels in the dark with only a narrow headlight, collecting ten 1-ups consecutively in Super Mario Bros and getting a hole in one in Golf.
The gameplay almost carries a “Nintendo World Championships” vibe to it, with each level containing challenges from bits and pieces from classic titles for the high score. NES Remix may be a great party game for the gamers old enough to remember the originals.
Whether or not NES Remix is worth the $15 price tag for those who still have their copies of the NES classics is yet to be determined. But Nintendo certainly is doing something unique with NES Remix that could make for more installments.
Who knows, maybe we’ll be able to play new versions of Link to the Past and Yoshi’s Island in the near future.
NES Remix is available now on Wii U for $15. Check out the trailer right here:
